Members of the National League’s Eastern Division, the New York Mets are located in the Queens borough of N.Y.C. Originally playing at historic Shea Stadium, the Mets moved into a new arena in 2009, Citi Field. The Mets were an MLB expansion team and were established in 1962 in order to help fill the void of the departure of two former professional baseball team’s to the city – the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants. To say the least, the Mets had a bad start with their first season. The team went 40-120, holding the MLB’s record for worst regular season since the league went to a 162 game season. In fact, following that first year, the Mets hadn’t finished better than second to last; but that all changed in 1969 when miracle happened. Known to this day as the “Miracle Mets,” in 1969 the team defeated the Baltimore Orioles in the 1969 World Series – making it one of the biggest upsets in all of professional sports.
