The Houston Texans joined the National Football Conference in 2002 as an expansion team. There was space created in Houston after the Houston Oilers moved their franchise to Tennessee and were renamed as the Titans. The Texans were forced to rename themselves the Texans because the ‘Oilers’ team name was still owned by former Houston team owner Bud Adams. The NFL announced in 2002 that the team name search had been narrowed down to six possibilities: Apollos, Bobcats, Stallions, Texans, Toros and Wildcatters. An online survey conducted by the NFL, that generated over 65,000 responses resulted in the team choosing the mascot of the ‘Texans.’ The Texans play their home games at Reliant Stadium. Within Reliant Stadium, the sections located behind the north end zone are known as the “Bull Pen.” These sections are reserved for the team’s most avid fans, who have created songs and chants over the teams short years in the NFL. The team also has their own 45-member pep band that performs during all Texans home games.
