The Oakland Raiders were established in 1960 as a member of the American Football Conference. The team joined the National Football Conference in the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. The team gained access to the AFL in 1960 because the Minneapolis franchise, whose team had yet to be filled. Originally based out of Oakland, California, the Raiders relocated to Los Angeles, California for thirteen seasons, from 1982 to 1994. In 1995 the Raiders returned to Oakland. From 1963 to 2002 the Raiders had only seven losing seasons. The Raiders first exclusive stadium was Candlestick Park in 1961. The team later played at Frank Youell Field, which held 18,000, which was only a temporary home until the Overstock.com Coliseum was under construction. Filling Overstock.com Coliseum for each home game is “Raider Nation.” The nickname given to the team’s die hard fans that reach across the globe. Within the Coliseum, the truest and rowdiest fans of Raider Nation reside in the “Black Hole,” which fall in sections 104, 105, 106 and 107. The fans have gotten so much notoriety that recording artist Ice Cube recorded a song named “Raider Nation.”
