The Pittsburgh Steelers are the National Football Conferences most winningest team, having won six Super Bowl titles, eight American Football Conference Championship games. The only other NFL team to rival the Steelers in Super Bowl victories is the Dallas Cowboys, with eight as well. The team belongs to the Northern Division of the AFC conference. The Steelers were originally called the Pittsburgh Pirates when formed in July of 1933 by then team owner, Art Rooney. Rooney took the team name from city’s baseball team. In 1940 the team renamed themselves the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team plays their home games at Heinz Field, which they share with the University of Pittsburgh Panthers. The stadium was build in 2001, when it replaced Three Rivers Stadium, the former home of the Steelers for thirty-one years. Today the team’s logo, which has been used since 1962, is based upon the steelmark, originally used by Pittsburgh corporation, U.S. Steel. The logo consists of the word “steelers” surrounded by three astroids. The astroids are individually colored yellow, red, and blue; each represent a different ingredient used in the steel-making process: coal, iron, and scrap steel.
