Located in Los Angeles, California, the LA Kings are members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League. The team came into existence with six other NHL teams in a 1967 NHL expansion. The franchise was awarded to Jack Kent Cooke. The team originally played at The Forum, located in Inglewood, California. However, prior to the 1999-2000 NHL season, the team relocated to downtown Los Angeles and began playing all their home games at the Staples Center. Prior to joining the NHL in 1967, the LA Kings were members of several other professional hockey leagues, including the Pacific Coast Hockey League and the Western Hockey League as the Los Angeles Blades. The LA Kings were attempting to gain permission to play their original home games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum instead of The Forum. The team was denied their request because the Coliseum had already agreed to a contract with the now minor league hockey team, the LA Blades. The team has only won their division once and similarly has only a singular Stanley Cup Title appearance, in which they lost to the Montreal Canadiens.
