The Minnesota Wild hockey team is located in St. Paul Minnesota. They are members of the Northwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League. The team was established in 2000, filling the void in the popular hockey state after the Minnesota North Stars had left seven years earlier. Helping guide the way for a new NHL team in St. Paul, present time mayor, Norm Coleman began an effort to either lure an existing NHL team to the city, or position the city to become more hopeful in being awarded the next NHL expansion team. Coleman’s efforts came to fruition in 1997 when the NHL announced that Minnesota would be home to a new NHL expansion team. In order to finalize the team’s existence in Minnesota, the state had to pass legislation to loan the city of St. Paul million, which would account for 50% of the expected 0 million it would take to build the teams new stadium.The team plays its home games at Xcel Energy Center. The NHL team has two minor-league teams that associate with them; first the Bakersfield Condors, send the Houston Aeros.
