Playing out of Tampa, Florida, the Tampa Bay Lightning are members of the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League. The team has won the Stanley Cup title once in the team’s history, during the 2003-04 season. The team was founded in 1992 by two NHL Hall of Fame players: Phil and Tony Esposito. The brothers faced local competition in the bidding process, however, when they were able to acquire a group of Japanese businesses, the NHL decided in the brother’s favor. The team plays their home game at the St. Pete Times Forum. This was not the first home of the Lightning however, the team first played at the NHL’s smallest forum of the time, the Expo Hall, which seated only 11,000 fans. The team’s first year offered forth a record setting season for the team, the 53 team goals was an all time high for the NHL.
